Foundations for the Future

(preparing for a third century)

1999 - The Joel Committee formed to develop a visionary plan for First United Methodist Church's organizational operation for the next millennium.

2000 - Lightning struck the turret on tower of First United Methodist Church. Water damaged the sanctuary's M.P. Moller pipe organ.

2001 - Wesley groups formed to strengthen congregation by creating small focused groups

2002 - Repairs on tower completed; a restored and improved sanctuary pipe organ dedicated

2006 - Following a "Campus Master Plan" two major projects were completed. Additional land was purchased to provide for parking extending from the Church to Lemon St. A major addition to the building included new space for a large multi-purpose room (gym, worship space, dining facilities) designed to meet the needs of a growing contemporary worship service and a sports ministry.  The addition also added a new chapel, library, choir rooms,  and classrooms.  New ramps and an elevator made the entire building fully accessible to the handicapped for the first time.  Sheltered handicapped parking and a play area for the preschool we included under the elevated multi-purpose room.
